Sidecar Holster Design

Why I made the switch from sidecar to an independent holster design.

If you’ve looked back at any of my old posts lately you’ll notice that I’ve placed a disclaimer on all my posts that included my holster with the sidecar design. I wanted to make a post explaining a bit more in depth why I’ve enjoyed moving away from that design and why I have stopped recommending it to you.
Initially I moved away from the design because I purchased a 48 MOS and very few holster companies seemed to have the updated molds for it at the time. A friend actually sent me a holster independent from the mag pouch to try, which I quickly fell in love with for the comfort, concealment and draw. At that time I also started carrying my Modlite AIWB, and could no longer fit a sidecar holster in the appendix potion. There are a few things about the design that can be counterproductive to concealment.

Initially I loved the sidecar design because it created a streamlined “bump” across my waistline and I was hesitant to move away from the design because of it. I was able to easily solve this issue by taking advantage of the concealment features on my independent holster while also placing an additional tool (Modlite) to the left of my slide in order to continue that streamline across my front.

The reason I have stopped recommending them is because after months of doing so I have come across a dozen or so followers that truly could not make this design work for their bodies, and I’ve started to understand why. The design itself tends to be counterproductive especially with a body type that has a less flat stomach. Additionally the paracord design allows for some movement, but not nearly the same amount of movement that a single holster and separate mag pouch allows. I feel much more confident recommending an independent holster design to the diverse body types that follow this page both for comfort and concealment purposes 💕

Sidecar Style: the two separate pieces are held together by paracord, which allows little to no up/down or side to side movement for the active user. Little to no ability to adjust ride height separate from holster and mag, less room for customization.
