Jiu Jitsu Update

I’ve been going to Jiu Jitsu now for about 8 months. When I started, I didn’t think I would, nor did I plan to stick around this long. My plan was to try it for two months, and then go about my life. I NEVER in a million years would have expected myself to enjoy something like this. Over the last 8 months I’ve gone through phases of injury, needing to take it slow, lots of tapping, hard lessons learned, and I would 100% do it all over again. I’ve gained things from this experience that I would have never expected to, like confidence.

I think martial arts, can often instill a sort of false confidence in its practitioners, but I’m talking about the kind of self confidence that has spilled into other aspects of my life in the most positive way. Doing something that was so far out of my comfort zone, and turning it into a passion has shown me that I am capable of more than I realized. I’m capable of putting up with physical pain, I’m capable of learning a new skill, I’m capable of fighting off panic attacks when I feel trapped under someone nearly twice my size, and those alone are huge wins, maybe not for you, but for me! Knowing that I’m capable of doing “big for me” things, encourages me to take uncomfortable steps in other aspects of my life, that I know I wouldn’t have been willing to take even a year ago.

All of that to say, try things that are out of your comfort zone, they might bring out a whole different side of you that you didn’t know was there 💕 Thanks John Johnston for encouraging me to jump into this!
