No Silly Questions Here

No such thing as a silly question here. This page was created so that whoever wanted to could follow along as I started on and continued down the road of carrying a gun for self defense. A question came up recently and I felt that it could be useful to address it here.

Why is there a blue film around my primer on my defensive ammo?

Once upon a time I thought this was for looks 😆 blue is my favorite color, so surely that had to be the reason 😉

The blue coloring around the primer on certain ammo may be pretty, but that’s not what it is there for. In fact it is simply just a sealant that’s there to make the round even more resilient to the elements. It’s actually common practice to have a sealant coating placed around the primer. Sometimes the sealant is red or even clear, which may be why you haven’t noticed it before, but nonetheless, it is there for a real purpose.
